- Joy of Christ Celebration, Oakland Armory/Community Center, beginning 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to focus on the spirit, joy, and historical events on which the Christmas celebration is based. Local and out-of-area artists share performances and concerts; area churches provide refreshments. Dec. 8 performances include Allegany Community Symphony Orchestra, The Mountain Anthems and Maria Rose and Danny Elswick. Free admission, food, and fellowship for all ages. FRIDAY, December 9
- Help Santa Blanket the Homeless, Grantsville Senior Center, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Join Santa while he helps the Grantsville Involvement Group and the Happy Students Against Destructive Decisions Club of Grantsville celebrate their blanket drive with music by Jimmy B, games, crafts, cake walks and snacks. Donate a new or gently used, clean blanket for a chance to win a Walmart gift card, limit of five chances to win. Admission if free; small charge for cakewalk. - Community Christmas Dinner, Ryan’s Glade Community Building, 6 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share and a camera for taking pictures with Santa. Join the cake walk for only $.25.
- Discovery Center Holiday Open House, Deep Creek Lake State Park Discovery Center, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Take a picture with Santa, then create a nature frame to display it. Refreshments. Free. Sponsored by Western Garrett County State Park Volunteers, Inc. (301-387-7067)
