Garrett County Health Department: Public Health Preparedness Site

Welcome!

The Mission

The mission of the Garrett County Health Department program is to provide an organized and responsive public health intervention to natural and manmade emergencies, particularly from biological weapons of mass destruction. The Health Department's response is consistent with the county's emergency operations plan; and serves as a community resource for education, training and information on public health emergencies, for private and public health professionals, and the community at large.

Public Health

Public Health has a critical role in bioterrorism preparedness and response. Bioterrorism is a unique form of terrorism which entails the use, or perceived use, of a Biological organism for the sole purpose of spreading potentially deadly diseases. The public health response may include identifying the disease, stopping the spread of the disease, and working with others to treat affected persons.
