News Release For Immediate Release: February 7, 2011 Contact Person: Diane Lee, PIO, 301-334-7730 Kitzmiller After School Kids celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Kitzmiller After School started their Celebration with the youth sharing what they knew about Martin Luther King, Jr. “I have to say I was quite impressed,” said Nancy Brady, volunteer at the program. “I was even more impressed when each student from kindergarten to fifth grade was asked to share what their dream would be for their community and their county.” Youth shared dreams ranging from no homework to having Kitzmiller School survive for another hundred years. The list also included wanting cleaner swimming and fishing areas, more houses for people to live in, a friend for every person, and even a community garden to feed the hungry. One fifth grader's dream for the county was that there would be less dependence on foreign oil and more affordable gas. “Let there be no doubt the Kitzmiller kids have dreams,” Brady added. All the “dreams” were compiled into a bulletin board (pictured above), which will be displayed at Kitzmiller Elementary School for the next month. Also shown above are some of the Kitzmiller After School students who participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration.
