Grantsville Involvement Group Raises Funds for Needy Families

The Grantsville Involvement Group (G.I.G.) conducted its Third Annual Christmas Fund Raiser at the Grantsville Elementary School in early December. For the first time this year, local vendors participated with their products. The fees paid by the vendors were used to buy groceries for some less fortunate families in the Grantsville area. Additional funding was added from G.I.G. to further the cause. The event included music, hot chocolate and cookies and gingerbread houses for the kids to make while parents shopped from the vendors. “Thanks to all of those who participated this year,” said Sharon Menges, Outreach Worker for the Garrett County Health Department. “It would not be possible without G.I.G., the Happy SADD Club, Grantsville Elementary School and funding from the Health Department.” The Happy SADD Club members helped organize the event, and are pictured above with Santa Claus. In front from left to right are Haley Moon, Kendra Georg, and Bailey Tiemersma; in back are Devin Dorsey, Jeff Johnson, Santa's Helper, Derek Silbaugh, and Bobbi Lapp. Pictured at right is Garrett Merrill showing off his gingerbread house, complete with shutters and all its decorations. Anyone interested in participating in G.I.G please call Sharon Menges at 301-334-7730 or 301-895-3111. Activities of G.I.G. are supported in part by funds from the Garrett County Health Department to promote healthy living and prevent risky behaviors.
