News Release For Immediate Release: June 15, 2010 Contact Person: Diane Lee, PIO, 301-334-7730 GARRETT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT FEE FOR CERTIFIED BIRTH CERTIFICATES INCREASES TO $20 ON JULY 1st OAKLAND, MD – The Garrett County Health Department Vital Records Program fee for certified copies of birth certificates will increase from $15 to $20 for each requested copy effective July 1 st . This is the first increase since 2003 and brings the fee in line with what every other jurisdiction in Maryland is currently charging for local issuance of certificates. The Garrett County Health Department provides certified copies of birth certificates for persons born in Maryland from 1938 to present. Certificates are available to the individual named on the certificate and their parents, as well as guardians of that individual if they present court documentation of guardianship. Certificates can be obtained at the Oakland office of the Garrett County Health Department located at 1025 Memorial Drive, Oakland. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Certified copies of birth certificates for individuals born before 1940 are available through the Division of Vital Records office located at 6550 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, at a cost of $12 per copy. The $12 fee is a non-refundable charge for each certified copy requested. If the search provides no record, a “certificate of no record” is provided.
