Garrett County Women, It's Your Time!
Make Your Health a Priority

National Women's Health Week

Did you know that heart disease and cancer were the two most common causes of death – and accounted for nearly half of all deaths – among Maryland women in 2008?

Or that 15% of new mother's in Maryland reported feeling postpartum depression and 58% say they were overweight?

The focus of National Women's Health Week, May 9-15, is to draw attention to issues such as these. This year's theme is “It's Your Time,” as a reminder for women to take care of themselves. Local health departments and community-based organizations throughout the state are engaging in a variety of events to raise awareness about women's health and the importance of women taking the time for their own health.

The Garrett County Health Department is doing free blood pressure screenings for all women on May 13, from 8:30am-4pm in the lobby.
