News Release For Immediate Release: January 26, 2010 Contact Person: Diane Lee, Public Information Officer, 301-334-7730 Dance Raises Money to Provide Food for Local Families
In early December the Grantsville Involvement Group (GIG) and the NHS Future Farmers of America (FFA) held a fund raiser dance at Grantsville Elementary school. Admission price was nonperishable items which were combined with other donations and given to local families in need. Dance participants could have their picture taken with Mr. & Mrs. Claus, make crafts, or help themselves to cookies and hot chocolate. Pictured above with Mrs. Claus (Scarlett Fost) and Santa Claus (Rick McCrobie) are Colton Groves, Morgan Brenneman and Jordyn Folk. An auction raised money to purchase additional items for the food bags. “Thanks to "Jimmy B" and his family for donating their disc jockey services for the dance,” said Sharon Menges, Outreach Worker at the Garrett County Health Department, “they always do a great job. We also want to thank the FFA for doing a wonderful job of taking pictures and helping with the crafts. It truly was community effort, and we thank local businesses, including First Peoples Federal Community Credit Union, and all the people that helped to make this possible thru these tight times with their donations.” GIG packed15 bags of nonperishable items and distributed them to families before Christmas. In the picture below, volunteering their time to pack bags from left to right in front row are Wilma Hutzel, Meighan Jones and Kendra Georg. In the back row are Aly McKenzie, Tina Broadwater, Heather Christner, Rusty Christner and Robin Jones. Not pictured, but helping plan the event were Melanie McKenzie, Brittany Lynch and Sharon Menges. To volunteer with GIG please contact Sharon Menges at 301-895-3111 extension 6528 or Robin Jones at 301-895-3144. |
