Dennett Road announces Walking Wednesdays Winners
Each Wednesday at Dennett Road Elementary, students participated in Walking Wednesdays. Students were recognized on the school's morning news for every 5 miles they walked. The Walking Wednesdays Program was an initiative of the Dennett Road Wellness Committee and was supported by staff from the school and the Garrett County Health Department Outreach and AmeriCorps Team. Pictured above right are Hana Smith, AmeriCorps Member and Jacob Nazelrod, top walker for the school. The top winners from each grade are shown in the group picture above. In the front row from left to right are Kaitlin Shaffer, 3 rd Grade, 13 miles; Laura Frederick, 2 nd Grade, 11 ½ miles; Jacob Nazelrod, 1 st Grade, 20 miles; and Evan Germain, Kindergarten, 14 ¼ miles. In the back row are Daniel Friend 4 th Grade, 6-3/4 miles; Hana Smith AmeriCorps Member, and Cecil Smith, 5 th Grade, 10 miles. Also helping to organize the program, but not present for the picture, was Kristen Walker, Outreach Worker at the Garrett County Health Department.
