Art Days Return to Garrett County
The AmeriCorps team at the Garrett County Health Department is pleased to announce the return of two art camps this summer.
Camp Colorful Smiles is a day camp for special needs children up to age 18 and their families. This camp will feature many activities including hand painting, instrument making, and drumming. Parents and/or guardians are required to attend. Camp Colorful Smiles is scheduled for June 15, 2009 from 9 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Oakland Community Center/Armory.
Junior Arts Day is a camp that encompasses visual and performing arts and will include tie dye, puppetry, theatre, and other artistic mediums. This camp is offered from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for children ages 3-7 years old and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. for ages 8-12 years, at the Oakland Community Center/Armory.
“Every child has an imagination and art gives them the outlet to create,” said Hana Smith AmeriCorps member at Garrett County Health Department.
The role of camp staff is to expose children to a variety of materials so that they can create art. Where there is exposure, there is choice. There is a greater opportunity for an artistic spirit to be identified when children are exposed to art at a young age. The arts camp staff encourages families to register their child for these camps because artistic talent will remain hidden if not exposed.
