News Release For Immediate Release: June 2, 2009 Contact Person: Diane Lee, Public Information Officer, 301-334-7730 AmeriCorps Member Needed The Garrett County Health Department is anticipating the start of their fifteenth year of AmeriCorps service in August. “I enjoy AmeriCorps basically because I get to better my community,” said current AmeriCorps member Raven Smith, “and I'm planning on coming back for a second year to continue my service.” Additional full-time positions are available for individuals interested in joining the AmeriCorps program. The members may work with the health department after school programs, direct a teen health theater troupe, assist in the child safety seat program, dental education program, social norm campaigns, alcohol and other drug prevention programs at the local college, and coordinate agency recycling and Adopt-a-Highway projects. AmeriCorps Members serve one year terms, and must be committed to community service and further education. Members receive a living allowance, an educational award and health benefits and child care reimbursement are available to eligible participants.
