Child Safety Seat Check Scheduled

Nine month old J.D. Nasselrodt, III, is content to ride rear facing in his child safety seat. Mom and Dad, Cheryl & Doug Nesselrodt from Kitzmiller, know that current recommendations by child safety experts are that rear facing is safest for children up to 18 to 24 months, or until they reach the maximum weight for the rear facing convertible seat. For help with car seat questions, come to the free Child Safety Seat Check at McDonalds on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The Garrett County Health Department is holding a free Child Safety Seat Check on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM in the parking lot of the Oakland McDonalds. Having your child s eats checked is a good way to make sure children are as safe as possible as they travel.

“Trained personnel will check the cars seats to make sure they are the right size and style for the child,” said Diane Lee, highway safety coordinator at the health department. “We will also make sure the seat has not been recalled, and that it is installed correctly.”

Several Troopers from the McHenry Barrack of the Maryland State Police will assist with this event as a part of the 2009 Maryland Law Enforcement Challenge.

For more information about the seat check, or for answers to questions about child safety seats, contact Diane Lee at the Garrett County Health Department at 301-334-7730, 301-895-3111, or leed@dhmh.state.md.us .
