News Release For Immediate Release: March 3, 2008 Contact Person: Diane Lee, Public Information Officer, 301-334-7730 STEAM Members Testify in Annapolis
Tabitha Ringer and Chelsie Custer, members of the local STEAM (Student Tobacco Elimination Among Minors) groups, testified on February 25, 2008, before the House Economic Matters Committee on a local bill. The proposed legislation would change tobacco sales to minors from a criminal to a civil penalty. If passed, the law would go into effect October 1, 2008. Ringer is a senior at Southern High School and Custer is a sophomore at Northern High School. Pictured left to right in Annapolis are Ringer, Delegate Wendell Beitzel who also testified in support of the bill with the STEAM members, and Custer.
