National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month Declared

Released: May 2, 2006

The Garrett County Commissioner signed a proclamation Tuesday declaring May as National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. The Asthma Coalition would like to remind persons who suffer from allergies and asthma that May is a high pollen month. Be sure you monitor your breathing, preferably with a peak flow meter, use medications properly and use a surgical mask when outdoors if you are particularly susceptible to allergies. Pictured above wearing their surgical masks are Commissioner Ernie Gregg, Asthma sufferer John Pelland, and Commissioner Dave Beard. In back are Bob Stephens Health Department Director of Behavioral and Family Health, and Sadie Liller Health Department Outreach Worker. The Garrett County Asthma Coalition has scheduled a free camp for children asthma suffers and their parents. Camp Mountain Air will be held at the Garrett County Health Department on May 13 th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will include a number of activities that target children ages 6 to 14. Separate sessions will be held with parents to help them learn how to manage their child's asthma so their child can learn to live a normal life. For more information about the camp Click Here. For more information call 301-334-7730.
