Project Sticker Shock Targets Underage Drinking | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Released: January 31, 2006
In order to educate the public and change attitudes about selling, serving, or sharing alcohol with anyone under 21, the SADD Groups and the Garrett County Health Department are joining forces in "Project Sticker Shock." The project is being done in partnership with local alcohol vendors to spread "Sticker Shock" waves throughout Garrett County by placing stickers on cases of beer in their stores. The sticker spells out a strong reminder: "It is illegal to buy or provide alcohol for anyone under 21." Those stores that have participated in the first round of Project Sticker Shock include Winner's Circle, Get N'Go, Hartman's Accident Amoco, and Slopeside Market. "The first round of this project occurred before the Christmas and New Year's holidays," reported Nancy Brady, Prevention Supervisor at the health department, "and we plan to continue the project throughout the year at traditionally high-risk times for underage drinking such as prom and graduation." Project Sticker Shock is supported by a grant from the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention and the Garrett County Partnership for Children and Families, Inc. / Local Management Board.
