Plan B is a new form of emergency contraception. ECP is a way to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. Because ECP prevents pregnancy before it begins, it is not the same as an abortion.
Plan B may be taken up to five days after the act of unprotected intercourse. It is effective 1 to 8% in preventing an unintended pregnancy.
