The Garrett County Tobacco-Free Coalition has been an active force in tobacco control and prevention for nearly 15 years.
Pictured above are coalition members Kimberly Miltenberger, Tenna Taylor, Kendra Todd, Shirley Guinn, Kendra Thayer, Donna Aspinall, and Kathy Elliott assembling care packages for college students. The care packages include various health promotion incentives useful for college students such as toothbrushes, stress balls, post-it notes, ink pens, etc. as well as specific tobacco prevention information geared towards college students. The activities of the coalition have ranged from policy promotion and media advocacy to tobacco prevention education. The mission of the Garrett County Tobacco-Free Coalition is to: reduce unnecessary death and disability due to tobacco use among citizens of the county through a variety of actions by individuals, organizations, and those involved in public policy, including health care providers, schools, worksites, organizations, the mass media and public officals.
