The Steps to Better Health Committee has been in existence since the spring of 2003 to assist with the development of a county plan to address obesity and its resulting complications. Members come from various units of the Garrett County Health Department, Maryland Cooperative Extension, Garrett County Board of Education, Garrett College, Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Area Agency on Aging, Mt. Laurel Medical Center, local pharmacists, health clubs and private citizens. The Steps Committee members annually plan and implement the Garrett County Health Fair, an event serving over 400 residents.
