Drug Free Communities Support Program | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The Garrett County Drug and Alcohol Council and the Garrett County Health Department have a five year, $625,000 Drug Free Communities grant to prevent and reduce drug and alcohol abuse among youth. The Drug Free Communities (DFC) Program is a program of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The initiatives funded in the Garrett County DFC grant are designed to promote widespread community ownership of the youth substance abuse problem and to equip those same communities with the tools and motivation to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse at a grassroots level. Included in the grant award are funds to provide training to health care providers, law enforcement, human service providers, and community residents; mini-grants to community planning groups that plan and implement family prevention activities; mini-grants for the five local Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) clubs; prevention projects at Garrett College and at secondary schools; community media campaign; and alcohol compliance checks conducted by Maryland State Police.
